Climate Platform

Being Honest about the Climate Crisis

The Climate Platform program of the Contemporary Architecture Centre Foundation aims to provide a holistic response to the global climate crisis and ecological emergency as a complex natural, economic, and social phenomenon. Its goal is to enable academics, professionals, decision-makers, and citizens to understand and address these issues within their real contexts.

Global climate change and the ecological crisis are the greatest challenges of our time, and can only be effectively addressed if we succeed in creating a new type of dialogue. We must confront the fact that achieving meaningful change within the current economic and social systems is difficult. However, symptom management alone is not enough – fundamental shifts in perspective and action are needed. Our mission is not to encourage choosing sides in opposing views but to foster dialogue between them.

The Hungarian Contemporary Architecture Centre (KÉK) has grown over the past nearly two decades into a key independent professional institution in Central Europe. Our activities go far beyond the traditional interpretation of architecture – we operate with a holistic approach that recognizes the inseparable connection between shaping the built environment and addressing the greatest challenges of our time.

Our Projects

Community Gardens Project

The Community Gardens Project is one of the most successful initiatives of the Contemporary Architecture Center (KÉK), operating and evolving continuously since 2010. The program is not merely about gardening in an urban environment; its mission is far broader: it redefines the relationship between humans and nature in a city context.

The RurALL Project

RurALL (Rural Active Citizenship LABS) is a project that's all about the idea that 'citizen participation is citizen power'. The 2-year project is funded by the European Union under the CERV-2023-CITIZENS-CIV call coordinated by KÉK aims to empower rural people in local and EU-level environmental action and policy-making on global climate change.
